Over the last 30 years Quebec playwright Michel Marc Bouchard’s Les Feluettes (Lilies) has become a beloved Canadian classic. Known for its lyrical romanticism, the play unfolds around a moment in 1912 when a group of college boys in Quebec rehearse Gabriele D’Annunzio’s sensual play The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. As a love triangle develops, the young men struggle through their feelings with tragic consequences.

In 2016, Les Feluettes was finally realized in perhaps its truest form — as opera. Co-comissioned by Opéra de Montréal and Pacific Opera Victoria, the world premiere of Les Feluettes was a resounding critical success, earning Australian composer Kevin March praise for creating a “beautiful and powerful opera experience” that “harkens to 19th century Romantic composers” (Times Argus). March's lavish and cinematic score features "waltzes, old-timey songs, French-Canadian folk tunes and quotes from Scott Joplin and Claude Debussy" (Times Colonist), making Les Feluettes "a pure masterpiece" of Canadian opera (Boucle Magazine).
